How to use boolean operations

Objective:

Learn what Boolean Operations are and how to use them.

Applies to:

  • Implicits

Procedure:

1. Boolean Union: The boolean union block allows you to join multiple Implicit bodies together with an optional blend.

    • Select the Boolean Union block under the Modeling tab in the ribbon
    • In the 0: and 1: inputs in the Implicit Body List block, drag and drop the Implicit bodies you want to join together
      • To apply a fillet, adjust the Blend radius input
      • To join more than 2 bodies, click on the + button in the upper right-hand corner of the Implicit  Body List block

2. Boolean Subtract: The Boolean Subtract block allows you to subtract one (or multiple) Implicit bodies from another with an optional blend.

    • Select the Boolean Subtract block under the Modeling tab in the ribbon
    • In the Primary Body drag and drop the Implicit body you want to subtract from
    • In the 0: input in the Implicit Body List block, drag and drop the Implicit body you want to subtract with
    • To apply a fillet, adjust the Blend radius input
    • To subtract with more than 1 body, click on the + button in the upper right-hand corner of the Implicit Body List block

3. Boolean Intersect: The Boolean Intersect block allows you to maintain the volume only where your Implicit bodies overlap, with an optional blend.

    • Select the Boolean Intersect block under the Modeling tab in the ribbon
    • In the 0: and 1: inputs in the Implicit Body List block, drag and drop the Implicit bodies you want to intersect
      • To apply a fillet, adjust the Blend radius input
      • To intersect more than 2 bodies, click on the + button in the upper right-hand corner of the Implicit Body List block
